Common Causes of Back Pain and How to Relieve It

Only the common cold sends more people to the doctor's office than back pain. In fact, back pain is one of the top three reasons why patients undergo surgery and one of the top five reasons for patients being admitted to a hospital. Because our backbone, or spine, must allow us to be both flexible and rigid in order to support standing and sitting positions, this mechanically challenging expectation is often prone to injury and inflammation. In addition, the intricate arrangement of the spine's muscles, ligaments, vertebrae, nerves and cushiony discs leaves the back vulnerable to all kinds of unnecessary stress that promotes degeneration, inflammation, the development of herniated discs and sciata.

We routinely indulge in many daily activities that contribute to back pain, such as:
Sitting for several hours at a time, which puts almost 50 percent more pressure on the back than standing
Having long commuting hours to and from work leads to excessive "hunching" over the wheel, rounded shoulders and prolonged muscle tension
Leading a sedentary lifestyle that makes you neglect exercising for a mere 20 or 30 minutes a day
Alternately, if you do exercise you may be performing too many crunches and situps that increases compression by curving the spine in an improper "C" shape
Eating a diet high in fats, sugars and processed foods, which contributes to inflammation and lack of muscle tone
Carrying a heavy handbag on your shoulders
Sleeping on an old, saggy mattress that does not provide adequate support for the back during sleep
Walking a lot during the day but wearing high heels instead of supportive footwear

Psychological problems such as stress, depression and anxiety can also cause back pain. When we feel tense and resentful, we maintain our body in a consistently rigid manner, keeping our muscles in a stiff and fixed position. Consequently, when we walk, twist, turn or bend, we are forcing our muscles to do something they are not prepared to do. Imagine trying to bend a hard piece of plastic until it finally breaks because it does not want to bend--that is essentially what we are doing to our spine when its supporting muscles are constantly tense.

Some of these activities are simply unavoidable, like commuting or working at a desk job that keeps you sitting for six hours a day. However, incorporating enough exercise, eating a healthy diet, investing in a good, firm mattress and wearing comfortable shoes are all changes that you can begin complementing your life with at any time.

When back pain is the result of simply "overdoing it", the best thing you can do to relieve pain is rest your spine and apply Ateevia Botanica's PRIME Therapy topical agent to sore and inflamed back areas. Non-irritating, odorless and naturally powerful, Ateevia Botanica's special combination of phytonutrient extracts containing anti-inflammatory, analgesic properties can effectively eliminate back pain and soothe aching muscles so you can enjoy the day plus get a good night's sleep.
